Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit

Wallpaper pictures of the brand new and soon to open "Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit" roller coaster in the Production Central section of Universal Studios Florida at Universal Orlando - presented in 4:3 regular and 16:10 widescreen formats!

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit - July 2009 - 01

Set to hopefully open to the general public in the late Summer of 2009, "Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit" is an awe inspiring roller coaster that will take riders racing over, through and outside the park gates in Universal Studios Florida.

It's hard to miss the new roller coaster as it towers 167 feet high above Universal Studios Florida (the "Incredible Hulk Coaster" next door in IOA is only 110 feet tall).  After all, it has an impressive looking vertical lift hill complete with loops around the track, has a wicked design and track layout, and it's visible from nearly every part of the theme park.  And from what I've seen recently in person and read online, the station and ride itself will be absolutely incredible at night.

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit - July 2009 - 02

In addition to taking riders on a wild ride, several aspects make this new roller coaster unique and will certainly draw in the thrill seekers.  For starters, the coaster trains are quite small.  Each coaster train only has two cars, with each car seating six people in three rows of two.  In other words, the ride itself is going to be on a more personal level as you won't be cramed into giant coaster trains like those for "Incredible Hulk Coaster" or "Dueling Dragons" and be lost in the crowd.  Like "Revenge of the Mummy," this new coaster is going to virtually guarantee nearly identical rides with little difference between the front and back of the coaster train.

Another unique feature of this roller coaster involves the loading station.  To help keep the wait times to a minimum, the trains do not stop in the station.  Like "Primeval Whirl," the coaster will continue to move very slowly through the station and allow enough time for the riders to board and disembark from the ride.  A moving sidewalk moving at the same speed of the coaster train will make it easier to climb in and out of the seats.

One of the coolest features of "Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit" (as if it wasn't fascinating enough already), is the fact that you, the rider, will be able to pick your own soundtrack to listen to while on the ride.  The listing is long and covers a wide variety of today's popular music artists.  In addition to choosing your own music, a video camera on each car will capture your reactions while on the ride, and of course, the video will be perfect for sharing online at the popular social networking websites.

The only problem that I've seen with this coaster is that it isn't open yet.  The ride has fallen behind in construction and testing as new problems are continuing to occur and push the planned opening date further and further into the year.  At first we were told that the coaster was going to be ready in the Spring of 2009.  That came and went and Memorial Day was heavily rumored to be the next target date.  That passed and again the rumors were claiming that the park was trying hard to have the ride ready for the heavy Fourth of July crowds.  Once again, the ride wasn't ready and the next heavily rumored date was last week on July 22, 2009.  A local radio station was promoted as being in the park to promote the new roller coaster, but alas, nobody was allowed to go for a ride.

Delays when working with new technology aren't anything new in the theme park industry.  I was one of those who eagerly watched the construction of "Test Track" and was quite disappointed when it took forever to finally open to the general public.

Once it does finally open, I'm sure that "Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit" is going to be an outstanding roller coaster and a big hit amongst the Orlando, FL thrill seekers.
