Wallpaper pictures of the first ten years of "The Lost Continent" area of Islands of Adventure in Universal Orlando - presented in 4:3 regular and 16:10 widescreen formats!
Tucked away in the back corner of Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure theme park is the mystical land of "The Lost Continent." Here you can travel to medieval England and into the world of castles and dragons, out to the sandy and exotic lands of Arabia, or an ancient Greek "Lost City."Take a step out of reality and ride aboard a flying dragon as it takes to the skies and battles another one. Ask yourself if the giant tree stump at "The Enchanted Oak Tavern" is just an ancient tree or if it has the face of a wizard. Join an archaeologist and venture deep beneath the Mediterranean Sea, coming face-to-face with Poseidon and witnessing an epic battle of good versus evil. These are just some of the adventures that await you in the highly themed and often exciting land of "The Lost Continent."
NOTE - This version of "The Lost Continent" is how the land appeared from 1999 through 2009, just prior to the construction and partial conversion of the brand new land, "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter."As mentioned before, "The Lost Continent" was originally three separate lands within one. Merlinwood had the theming of medieval England along with the "Dueling Dragons" inverted roller coasters, "The Flying Unicorn," a Vekoma junior coaster, and "The Enchanted Oak Tavern," a counter-service restaurant. The Arabian section has an elaborate marketplace complete with games of skill. This area is also home to the live-action "The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad Stunt Show" along with "The Mystic Fountain," a wise-cracking, all-knowing fountain that may ask you some questions, make a request, or just soak the crowd for its own amusement. The Greek, mythological "Lost City" takes you into a forgotten city hidden in the Mediterranean Sea. "Poseidon's Fury: Escape from the Lost City" takes you on a guided tour filled with action and adventure, while "Mythos Restaurant" offers some of the finest dining and best service you'll ever find in a theme park.
Starting in May of 2000, "The Lost Continent" saw its first expansion with the addition of "The Flying Unicorn" roller coaster. This kiddie coaster gives the younger park guests a chance on a thrill ride until they grow tall enough to take on the "Dueling Dragons" right next door.
Between 2000 and 2008, the biggest change to come to "The Lost Continent" was the changing of the story in "Poseidon's Fury." Otherwise, the land remained virtually the same until "The Flying Unicorn" closed in July of 2008, the first of many changes coming in the transformation of Merlinwood into the new "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter."
Later in 2008 saw the closing and demolition of "The Enchanted Oak Tavern" restaurant. During this time a new temporary bridge was constructed to continue the flow of people from the Arabian section of "The Lost Continent" over to "Jurassic Park." The Fall of 2008 saw the re-routing of the exterior line queue for the "Dueling Dragons" coasters, bypassing the massive dragon statues and instead starting the line from the old bridge between "Jurassic Park" and "The Lost Continent." The main difference at that point was the huge construction walls blocking many views as Merlinwood was slowly changed and transformed into a different world of magic, castles and dragons.2010 saw the final transformation of "The Lost Continent" as the "Dueling Dragons" finally closed and was re-themed to fit the new "Wizarding World of Harry Potter" land. By the time that "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" officially opened to the general public on June 18, 2010, "The Lost Continent" had shrunk in size in both total area and attractions.
The next phase of "The Lost Continent," from 2010 and beyond, shall be told in a different story at a later time.In the meantime, on to the photos!
