Wallpaper pictures of the "Pteranodon Flyers" kiddie roller coaster in the "Jurassic Park" area of Islands of Adventure in Universal Orlando - presented in 4:3 regular and 16:10 widescreen formats!

Gliding nearly silently above the palm trees and sidewalks of "Jurassic Park" is the "Pteranodon Flyers" ride. The giant flying reptiles carry two people at a time as they circle around "Camp Jurassic," offering the riders outstanding views of "Jurassic Park."Technically defined as a roller coaster, the "Pteranodon Flyers" is a suspended single-rail coaster, and a very tame one at that. However, just because it's tame doesn't mean that it isn't any fun.
Like most other rides and areas in Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure, the "Pteranodon Flyers" is chock full of outstanding theming. From the tropical themed line queue that winds through volcanic rocks, waterfalls and palm trees to the giant Pteranodons themselves to the ride's exit through the amber mine, this is one incredible experience. The only problems are that the "Pteranodon Flyers" is a little bit too popular, and that the ride has a low rider capacity.
Back when Islands of Adventure opened in 1999, everybody was allowed to ride the "Pteranodon Flyers" as long as they met the minimum height requirement. The ride was designed for small children, but like everything else, the ride was open to everybody tall enough to ride. The ride's capacity is on the smaller side, and at around 80 seconds, it isn't very long of a ride. It nearly takes as long to load and unload two passengers as it does to take a lap around the track. When the park first opened, Universal quickly saw that people of all ages loved the ride. Two hour long waits were common. It was essentially a smash hit. The only problem was that the very long lines were discouraging to the children, the very people that the ride was designed to accommodate.
It didn't take long for the park to create the current rule still in place today. If you, an adult or teenager, want to ride the "Pteranodon Flyers," then you must have a child with you. If you are over 56" tall, you must have somebody between 36" and 56" with you.Technically, this rule is enforced all day each day of the operating season. However, if you're there first thing in the morning or in the off-season, depending on the workers at the start of the line queue, they may let you ride without being accompanied by a child.
If you have a child, do not pass up a chance to ride "Pteranodon Flyers." If you don't have a child but still want to ride, be there at park opening and see if the workers will let you ride. It's a short ride but a lot of fun.
