Jurassic Park

Wallpaper pictures of the "Jurassic Park" area of Islands of Adventure in Universal Orlando - presented in 4:3 regular and 16:10 widescreen formats!

Jurassic Park - June 1999 - 01 Jurassic Park - June 1999 - 02

Travel to the dense jungles on Isla Nublar, reported to be about 120 miles west of Costa Rica, and come face-to-face with dinosaurs brought back to life with the marvels of modern technology.

Here in "Jurassic Park" you'll find yourself right in the middle of the famous movie franchise, complete with the "Jurassic Park Discovery Center," "Camp Jurassic" play area, "Pteranodon Flyers," "Thunder Falls Terrace" counter-service restaurant, and of course, the "Jurassic Park River Adventure," a thrilling water adventure.

From 1999 through 2005, the island was also home to the "Triceratops Encounter" attraction.  This semi-interactive attraction had groups of guests being led to one of three life-sized, animatronic Triceratop dinosaurs.  A Jurassic Park veterinarian gave the dinosaur an examination, and at one point, a park guest was allowed to move forward and make contact with the mighty beast.  A few of the annual Halloween Horror Nights used the "Triceratops Encounter" line queue and buildings as a haunted house.

Crossing from "Toon Lagoon" under the famous archway into "Jurassic Park" is a sharp clash in theming.  One moment you're in a wide open, brightly lit and colorful land, and the next you're standing in a lush, tropical atmosphere complete with the occasional growing dinosaur or two.  Oddly enough, in the Summer it actually feels slightly cooler when walking through the tropical theming rather than "Toon Lagoon," the land with the most water rides and ways to get wet.  Tall palm trees provide plenty of shade, the "Discovery Center" offers plenty to see and do while in air conditioning, and the splashdown area for the River Adventure can solve your overheating problem real quickly.

Jurassic Park - July 2005 - 01

In 2008, a temporary bridge was built from the old "Island Skipper Tours" boat dock to "The Lost Continent," bypassing much of the construction taking place for the new "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" island set to open in June of 2010.  For the time being, the main bridge to "The Lost Continent" is being used exclusively as the entrance and exit for "Dueling Dragons" roller coaster.

Since its opening in 1999, "Jurassic Park" has seen relatively little change since the closing of "Triceratops Encounter" and "Island Skipper Tours."  Internet rumors have spun some wild tales about future rides such as a dark ride where you ride in a jeep and have a terrifying close encounter with a Tyrannosaurus rex like in the first movie, an inverted roller coaster through a Pteranodon 'bird cage,' and even an aerial tour of the island involving a giant movie screen similar to "Soarin'" over at Epcot.

Despite a lack of new adventures on the island, "Jurassic Park" is still a great part of Universal's Islands of Adventure theme park.
