Wallpaper pictures of The Land in Future World in Epcot - presented in 4:3 regular and 16:10 widescreen formats!
The Land is an original pavilion in the Future World section of Epcot and officially opened with the rest of Epcot on October 1, 1982. While the main building and concept behind the pavilion may be old, the attractions and eating areas have seen a lot of change over the years. The former "Listen to The Land" is still an educational boat ride through Audio-Animatronic displays, though today's version has a slightly different beginning and ending, no main theme song, and no longer has a cast member narrating the ride. Today's "Living with the Land" is still a semi-popular boat ride during certain parts of the day, though lately it seems like the only people riding it were those waiting for their "Soarin'" FastPasses to go active. This is usually known as a "walk right on" ride with less than a five minute wait during the off season.
The original "Kitchen Kabaret Revue" Audio-Animatronic show is long gone. No longer are park guests entertained and educated about good nutrition by the singing and dancing fruit, vegetables, dairy products, bread, and of course, a ham and an egg. That was one of my personal favorite shows from the old days of EPCOT Center, and I still miss it much to this day. "Kitchen Kabaret's" replacement, the short-lived "Food Rocks" show is also gone. The old waiting room and theater have been completely dismantled to make way for the massive new line queue and show building for "Soarin'".
As much as I'd love to still have "Kitchen Kabaret," "Soarin'" is an outstanding ride. This is a kid-friendly ride that still manages to greatly entertain adults with its simulation of hang gliding over popular and very scenic areas of California. The ride is over four years old and still manages to generate a two-hour stand-by wait time during the regular parts of the operating system. It's that good and that popular of a ride. The original show "Symbiosis" has also changed, though it still remains as a theatrical show. The only main difference is that the new version is called "Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable" and stars the cast of critters from The Lion King.
In addition to the attractions changing over the years, so has the general interior of the pavilion along with the eating establishments. "The Land Grille Room" (originally known as "The Good Turn Restaurant") is still a restaurant sitting on top of a giant turntable offering aerial views of the dark ride sections of "Living with the Land", but today's version is called "The Garden Grill" and is now a character dining experience where a few of the main Disney characters come out and say hello to each of the tables.
The original "Farmer's Market" food court is still around as in it's a food court, but that's about it. The large fountain and open seating area is gone, and a much fancier food court has taken over the old "Farmer's Market" and its replacement, "The Sunshine Season Food Fair." The current "Sunshine Seasons" food court has more of an upscale feel to the limited food options (upscale including the prices), and the new seating arrangement can be very difficult to navigate during the busy lunch and early dinner time periods. I'm still a fan of the original "Farmer's Market" and old seating area.
The Land is a huge pavilion when you combine the greenhouses with the "Living with the Land" and the massive show building for "Soarin'". It's roughly the same size as Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom. And despite the changes that have been made to the building, attractions, and eating locations over the years, The Land is still an excellent part of a day at Epcot and should not be missed.
