Wallpaper pictures and ride video of the "Primeval Whirl" spinning wild mouse roller coaster in the DinoLand USA section of Disney's Animal Kingdom - presented in 4:3 regular and 16:10 widescreen formats!
When Disney's Animal Kingdom opened in 1998, DinoLand USA offered park guests one ride ("Countdown to Extinction"), one show ("Journey into Jungle Book"), a playground ("The Boneyard") and two fossil museums ("1998 Dinosaur Jubilee" and "Fossil Preparation Lab"). While "Countdown to Extinction" was a great thrill ride and the other parts of DinoLand were entertaining and quite educational, the park guests were still looking for more things to see and do to make it a full day at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Perhaps something with a little more entertainment and a little less learning.
The Asia section opened next and gave the guests "Kali River Rapids" and the "Maharajah Jungle Trek," but the park still needed to add more rides without spending a fortune. What came next was the Dino-Rama addition to DinoLand USA complete with another thrill ride --- "Primeval Whirl." This would involve the removal of "Dinosaur Jubilee" and the old "Fossil Preparation Lab" building to make room for the new section in DinoLand USA. "Primeval Whirl" is a Reverchon Spinning Wild Mouse Coaster. It opened in March of 2002 and currently sits on part of the old "Dinosaur Jubilee" location.
"Primeval Whirl" is actually made of two separate roller coaster tracks independent of each other. The tracks themselves are identical except for them facing in opposite directions. One of them has the lift hill going up towards Dino-Rama, while the other one faces away from it. Otherwise, the drops are the same heights and the turns are still in the same direction no matter which side that you ride. "Primeval Whirl" is a FASTPASS ride which is quite handy as the stand-by wait times during the busier seasons commonly reach the 45 minute mark. The stand-by line consists of the majority of the line queue space inside of the main building and loading station. The FASTPASS line merges with the stand-by line at the point where the cast member directs you to either the left of right sides (when they're running both sides simultaneously). After the merger point everybody waits in the same line to the loading station, which at that point only takes about eight to ten minutes. Now it's time to take a look at "Primeval Whirl" before going through the line queue and then taking a spin on the ride.
