The story of "Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain" starts in the remote village of Serka Zong. A relatively new company called Himalayan Escapes - Tours and Expeditions moved into town and specializes in train tours of the Himalayan Mountains including a ride to the summit of Mount Everest. The trek takes us right over the Forbidden Mountain while on the way to Everest, but that's just a minor issue.
Our journey to the train station starts on the streets of Serka Zong, usually near the Shangri-La Trekkers Inn and Internet Cafe depending on the time of year. Something important to point out is that when Himalayan Escapes moved into Serka Zong, the company was able to acquire several old buildings, a tea plantation and several Yeti shrines. It seems that the previous occupants, who mainly worked in support of the Royal Anandapur Tea Company and the collection and shipments of tea leaves, were scared out of town by something fearsome. Some claim that it was the Yeti, while others insist that it was nothing but a tiger or possibly a bear. Either way, our journey to the station is going to take us through several old and decaying buildings along the way.The first structure in the line queue is the booking and permit office. This is followed by a brief tour around Yeti Mandir, a large pagoda shrine built for the creature. The trek then takes a tour through part of the tea plantation before going inside of Tashi's Trek and Tongba Shop, complete with lots of hiking and climbing gear available for rental or purchase. The last part of the main line queue involves a trip through the Yeti Museum, a large collection of so-called artifacts and pieces of evidence proving that the Yeti does in fact exist and live in these very mountains. One of the more interesting and omnious exhibits is the wreckage of a "lost expedition" that went out looking for the Yeti. Are the photos from the fatal trek solid proof the the Yeti's existence? The line queue for "Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain" is one of the most elaborate and highly-themed line queues at Walt Disney World. It ranks up there with the line queues for "Dinosaur," "The Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror" and "Star Tours." It's just plain cool.Expedition Everest was developed and constructed since the age of FastPass, so that line queue wasn't left out of the story. The FastPass line gets to take its own brief tour through the Yeti Museum (out of sight from the stand-by line) before joining the main line in the ride's loading station. The line queue for Expedition Everest is theming at its finest, and most of the time it's fairly entertaining standing and waiting in its line. The line tends to move the slowest for the outside portions, but once you're inside of the hiking and climbing store, you'll be on the ride before you know it. There are so many interesting things to see that it really makes the time pass quickly. Amazing!
