Wallpaper pictures of the Asia section of Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park - presented in 4:3 regular and 16:9 widescreen formats!

Set in the town of Anandapur ("Place of all delight"), the Asia section of Disney's Animal Kingdom is themed to the southwest portion of the continent along with parts of India, Nepal, Thailand and Indonesia.  Like its real-life counterpart, the Asia section in the theme park has lush rain forests filled with exotic animals, a river rafting adventure, and even a high-speed thrill ride through Mount Everest in the Himalyan Mountains.  Like everywhere else in the Disney theme parks around the world, the theming and attention to detail in the Asia section of the park is just incredible.  One of my favorite parts is seeing signs throughout the area referring to attractions (or parts of attractions) is subtle ways.

But it didn't start out as fun and adventurous as the place is today.

In fact, when Disney's Animal Kingdom first opened back in 1998, the Asia section was still mostly under construction.  The land only had a dock for the "Discovery River Boats" (now extinct), two small fast food stands and the "Flights of Wonder" bird show at the Caravan Stage.  The rest of the land was hidden behind temporary walls as the construction continued for the "Maharajah Jungle Trek" animal trail and "Kali River Rapids" raft ride.

By December of 1999, both "Maharajah Jungle Trek" and "Kali River Rapids" were added to the guidemap, but they were both shaded out.  We knew that the attractions were on their way, and back then, "Late March 1999" couldn't have arrived soon enough!  Disney's Animal Kingdom was suffering badly from a lack of things to see and do, so these two attractions were definitely going to help add extra value to the growing theme park.

By March of 1999, both "Maharajah Jungle Trek" and "Kali River Rapids" were open to the public during a sneak preview period.  I was actually there during this preview session (this was my spring break during my freshmen year of college) and remember getting to try out Kali during its preview session.  The ride is still as much fun today as it was over ten years ago!

After the opening of the "Maharajah Jungle Trek" and "Kali River Rapids," the Asia section of the park remained fairly stable and quiet for the next few years.  Attention was shifted back to DinoLand USA and the addition of the Dino-Rama section, including a couple of new rides and activities.  Asia saw the temporary addition of the "Radio Disney River Cruise" (a conversion of the old "Discovery River Boats", now also extinct), but besides that the land remained fairly quiet.

It remained quiet until a huge amount of land was cleared back in 2003 and something massive slowly rose from the land.

"Expedition Everest: Legend of the Forbidden Mountain" was a massive, 6.2 acre project that not only gave Walt Disney World another highly themed roller coaster, but it also greatly expanded the total walking space inside of the park and greatly helped with the traffic flow.  In 2004, a new path opened going past "Expedition Everest," around the far side of the Discovery River and across a new bridge connecting Asia to DinoLand USA over by the "Theater In The Wild."

The theme park's landscape had been dramatically altered between 2003 and 2005, and in early 2006 "Expedition Everest" was open for annual passholder sneak previews followed by a preview session for the general public.  By now the modern day version of Asia in Disney's Animal Kingdom was nearly complete and has been a huge draw for guests visiting the theme park.

Opening in 2008, the "Yak & Yeti Restaurant" is the latest addition to Asia in Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Now that Asia is basically complete and a huge draw for visitors, what new adventures are going to be added next in Disney's Animal Kingdom?

The regular 4:3 pictures all have a resolution of 1600x1200 (960x1280 for vertical pictures), unless it's otherwise noted.  They can also easily fit monitor resolutions of 1280x960 or even 2133x1600 without needing any special modifications.  Just select the image and have Windows stretch and fit it to the other 4:3 resolution.

The widescreen 16:10 pictures all have a resolution of 1440x900, unless it's otherwise noted.  They can also easily fit a resolution of 2560x1600 without needing any special modifications.  Just select the image and have Windows stretch and fit it to the other 16:10 resolution.
