Wallpaper pictures of the tropical and classic Disney's Polynesian Resort at Walt Disney World - presented in both 4:3 regular and 16:10 widescreen formats!Aloha!
Opening with the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971, Disney's Polynesian Resort (originally known as Disney's Polynesian Village Resort) has offered luxurious accommodations with its relaxing South Seas theming.Nestled on the edge of Seven Seas Lagoon (complete with white sand beaches), guests stay in one of many longhouses. Torch-lit paths wander through the resort, and hibiscus flowers, volcanic rocks and palm trees complete the tropical experience. At night in the summer, don't be surprised if you see the occasional Eastern Cottontail rabbit hopping across the path or munching on some of the longer grass.
The Great Ceremonial House is the main building at the resort and offers everything from check-in/check-out services to various shops to the arcade to the restaurants ranging from counter-service to full-service. Upstairs is where you'll find the resort's monorail station along with the "'Ohana" and "Kona Cafe" restaurants.
One of the Polynesian Resort's highlights (apart from the excellent theming and tropical atmosphere) is the Nanea Volcano Pool which opened in late 2001-early 2002. Guests can climb the mountain and slide down a waterslide (fun, not intense or scary) into the pool. One end of the pool even has a zero-depth entry point---just walk straight into the water, no ladders or stairs. For those of you who remember, the resort's original pool also had a waterslide, though it was smaller but it did involve going behind a small waterfall. The Polynesian Resort also offers guests a quieter pool near the eastern end of the resort.
Disney's Polynesian Resort is one of three resorts on the monorail line, offering a sleek mode of transportation and speedy service to the Magic Kingdom. Guests also have the option of taking the sometimes quicker and almost always less busy resort launch (boat), cruising across Seven Seas Lagoon and arriving at the Magic Kingdom in only a few moments. Going to Epcot involves a monorail ride or a quick, five minute walk to the neighboring Transportation and Ticket Center, and then monorail ride to the park. Transportation to Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom is handled through Disney's internal bus system.
