Mickey's ToonTown Fair (EXTINCT!)
Donald's Boat (EXTINCT!)
(October 1, 1996 - February 11, 2011)
History and photos of the Donald's Boat water play area in Mickey's ToonTown Fair in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.
Located in Mickey's ToonTown Fair was Donald's Boat, a water playground themed to Donald Duck's ship, the Miss Daisy.
Donald's Boat was a simple water playground designed for little kids. Small jets of water would splash the kids and get them a little bit wet on the hot summer days. Although this looks like a multiple deck boat, guests were only allowed to walk through the lowest level. Inside of the boat was a map of the area and a bunch of duck jokes and Donald Duck references.
Take a look at the map and notice how a small area of it is labelled Toon Lagoon. Was this a small joke against Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure theme park, a major theme park about fifteen minutes away that opened in 1999 and included an "island" called Toon Lagoon? Or is it merely a coincidence? Universal *has* spoofed some Disney rides, such as in the posters outside of Shrek 4-D and throughout The Simpsons Ride at Universal Studios Florida.
Donald's Boat was one of those attractions that looked better as scenery rather than a play area. Perhaps that's because this boat was extremely simple with almost nothing to see and do. Despite that, the ship itself still looked like it belonged as part of Mickey's ToonTown Fair.
Donald's Boat closed on February 11, 2011 with the rest of Mickey's ToonTown Fair to make way for the expansion of Fantasyland.
