Walt Disney World Railroad - Main Street train station
History and photos of the Main Street train station for the Walt Disney World Railroad at the Magic Kingdom.
Standing proudly at the entrance to both the Magic Kingdom theme park and Main Street, USA is the Main Street train station for the Walt Disney World Railroad. It's a majestic structure of concrete, steel and glass, a tribute to the simpler days back in the 1890s and 1900s.
The Main Street train station is the primary attraction on Main Street, USA. Here you can board an authentic, steam-powered locomotive and enjoy an alternate method of travelling to Frontierland or to Fantasyland in the back of the theme park. Or if you wish, you can just sit back and take a few laps around the Magic Kingdom.
When visiting the train station, be sure to take a few minutes and appreciate the amount of detail that was put into this often overlooked structure in the park. Most people know about the Walt Disney window underneath the clock on the front of the train station, but that's about it. Few people stop and appreciate the classic railroad artifacts throughout the upper and lower floors in the train station, such as the train bulletin and the detailed waiting room on the upper floor.
The upper balcony at the Main Street train station is a popular place to watch the Main Street Electrical Parade along with the Wishes fireworks show. Be warned though that viewing spots along the upper railing are fiercely competitive, and some people will reserve their seats HOURS in advance.
The Main Street train station also stands as the backdrop for the current version of the Magic Kingdom's daily rope drop ceremony. A steam train arrives during the show and carries a bunch of Disney characters to the park's entrance. The short ceremony concludes with some fireworks and the opening of the theme park.
