AMC Theatres Downtown Disney 24
(~1990 - present)
History and photos of the AMC Theatres Downtown Disney 24 movie theater in the West Side at Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World.
Just after the 1989 opening of Pleasure Island, the first AMC movie theater opened opened in the Walt Disney World Village. Thanks to the theater's easily accessible location right there in the Walt Disney World Village, vacationers could still catch the latest summer blockbusters while on vacation. It was easy to take an air-conditioned break during the day, see a film on a rainy day, or catch a movie in the evening after the theme parks closed.
The AMC theater was originally called the AMC Pleasure Island 10, and like the name implies, it offered ten screens showing the hottest films on the market. The movie theater would remain in its location and grow in size over the years, eventually expanding to twenty-four movie screens. The new West Side expansion at Downtown Disney was built on the opposite side of the AMC movie theater, keeping it in place while a bunch of stores and restaurants were built around it. By the time the West Side opened in the Fall of 1997, the AMC movie theater was known as the AMC Theatres Pleasure Island 24.
The movie theater would go through another name change in 2010 and become the AMC Theatres Downtown Disney 24.
