Universal Studios Florida
Production Central photos
Photos from the Production Central area in Universal Studios Florida at Universal Orlando.
Upon entering the Universal Studios Florida theme park and briefly passing through the Front Lot, guests find themselves in the Production Central area of the park. Production Central is home to a small collection of attractions along with the popular Universal Studios' Classic Monsters Cafe counter-service restaurant.
Universal Orlando history buffs know that virtually all of Production Central has changed in one way or another over the years. Production Central was originally home to 'Murder, She Wrote' Mystery Theatre, Alfred Hitchcock: The Art of Making Movies, The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera, The Boneyard, Production Tour and Nickelodeon Studios. With the exception of The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera, all of the other attractions involve some sort of look at the creation of television shows and movies, whether it's movie props, movie sets & soundstages, creating a television show, or making a movie suspenseful.
By the late 1990's the 'Murder, She Wrote,' Mystery Theatre and Production Tour were already removed from Production Central. New additions included Stage 54 which hosted props from the latest hit movie of the time, and Hercules & Xena: Wizards of the Screen. As we know, bigger changes were still on the way for Production Central.
The next five or so years would see the removal of The Boneyard, Alfred Hitchcock: The Art of Making Movies, The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera, and even Nickelodeon Studios. Not even the recent additions of Studio 54 or Hercules & Xena: Wizards of the Screen were safe. Studio 54 was converted into the Universal Studios' Classic Monsters Cafe counter-service restaurant, while Hercules & Xena: Wizards of the Screen was used for marketing purposes. The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera was converted to Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast, and Alfred Hitchcock: The Art of Making Movies was changed to Shrek 4-D. Studio 54 was changed into Donkey's Photo Finish, a meet-and-greet place for the main characters from Shrek. The Nickelodeon Studios theater would be converted to the home of the Blue Man Group Sharp Aquos Theatre, a show directly accessible from Universal's CityWalk.
