On July 5, 2009 at 2 a.m., Monorail Pink was involved in a fatal crash with Monorail Purple on the Epcot monorail platform at the Transportation and Ticket Center.  Monorail Pink was in the process of switching to the Express track before ultimately heading to the monorail barn behind "Space Mountain."  Monorail Pink pulled forward from the TTC as if it was heading to Epcot and then stopped a short ways down the track so that the switch could be activated to allow the monorail access to the Express track.  Word has it that Monorail Pink received clearance for the transfer and then proceeded to go in reverse at full speed and switch to the Express track.  It's believed that human error prevented the switching of the track and Monorail Pink was still connected to the Epcot line and not to the Express track.  The monorails have rearview mirrors, but because of the darkness and curve in the track, the monorail pilot for Monorail Pink did not know that he was still on the Epcot line until it was too late.  The pilot for Monorail Purple saw Monorail Pink rapidly approaching, and he tried to move his train in reverse to avoid the collision, but his heroic efforts came too late.  The rear of Monorail Pink crashed into the front cab of Monorail Purple, killing the pilot for Monorail Purple.  The few park guests who were on Monorail Purple and waiting to go back to Epcot were apparently unharmed from the crash.

It is believed that this incident can be blamed entirely on human error.  For the record, the monorails all have an onboard collission avoidence safety system that must be switched to an override mode for the trains to switch tracks.

The Disney monorails have been in service since 1971 and otherwise have a perfect safety record.  I still make it a point to ride the monorails whenever possible.

The regular 4:3 pictures all have a resolution of 1600x1200 (960x1280 for vertical pictures), unless it's otherwise noted.  They can also easily fit monitor resolutions of 1280x960 or even 2133x1600 without needing any special modifications.  Just select the image and have Windows stretch and fit it to the other 4:3 resolution.

The widescreen 16:10 pictures all have a resolution of 1440x900, unless it's otherwise noted.  They can also easily fit a resolution of 2560x1600 without needing any special modifications.  Just select the image and have Windows stretch and fit it to the other 16:10 resolution.

Warning - There will be some slight variations between the regular and widescreen pictures!

Resort refers to the monorail being on the Resort Loop (TTC, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Magic Kingdom & Contemporary)

Express refers to the monorail being on the Express Loop (non-stop between the TTC and Magic Kingdom)

Epcot refers to the monorail being on the Epcot line (TTC to Epcot, including a loop around Future World before arriving at the Epcot monorail station)
