Universal Studios Florida guidemaps
Officially opening on June 7, 1990, Universal Studios Florida became the third major theme park chain (after Walt Disney World and SeaWorld Orlando) to make its presence in Orlando, Florida.
Like the Disney-MGM Studios, Universal Studios Florida had its share of criticism once it opened. Many of Universal's signature "E-Ticket" rides suffered from frequent technical problems, causing long delays and lots of frustration. The Jaws ride had to be completely re-built from scratch and wouldn't open again for a few years later.
Universal Studios Florida quickly grew in popularity once things were running smoothly. Its collection of high-quality rides and shows were exactly what the Florida theme park guests desired. From riding an aerial tram past the clutches of King Kong in Kongfrontation, to surviving a California earthquake in Earthquake - The Big One to chasing Biff Tannen's stolen time-traveling DeLorean in Back to the Future - The Ride, to helping E.T. return home in E.T. Adventure, Universal Studios Florida had plenty of fun and thrills for everyone.
Throughout the years Universal Studios Florida has seen its share of changes. Kongfrontation was removed and changed to Revenge of the Mummy. Back to the Future - The Ride was changed to The Simpsons Ride, and that eventually brought the town of Springfield to the park as well. Jaws was also removed, and that entire area was converted to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley and Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts.
Today, Universal Studios Florida continues to live up to its original slogan --- "Ride the Movies."
