Digital wallpaper photos of "The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror" at Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World! "Innovative." "Creative." "Thrilling." "Terrifying." "An instant classic." Those are just some of the words and phrases one could use to describe this thrill ride attraction. Opening in 1994, "The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror" brought a new dimension for Walt Disney World guests looking for a new thrill. Instead of the usual roller coaster-type rides such as "Big Thunder Mountain Railroad" and "Space Mountain," or motion simulators like "Body Wars" and "Star Tours," Disney Imagineers brought a new thrill ride to life. A vertical thrill ride that would send unsuspecting park guests plunging down an elevator shaft and deep into "The Twilight Zone." Sure, there have been vertical drop rides in amusement parks for years, but not one like this masterpiece.
The Hollywood Tower Hotel is an ominous sight when walking down Sunset Boulevard. The old hotel from the 1930's is in decay and suffering from decades of neglect. An entire portion of the building is missing. Screams are heard from inside of elevator doors that mysteriously open and close on their own. Plants have overgrown the garden areas and are reclaiming the exterior of the building. Exterior walls are cracking and decorative fountains went dry a long time ago, physically impossible to operate again without extensive maintenance. Inside, layers of dust have accumulated on guests' personal items in the lobby and library. It's as if everybody suddenly vanished from the hotel and nobody has stepped foot inside of it for over sixty years. The hotel's lobby is filled with relics from the 1930s, many of which are references of the hit TV show "The Twilight Zone." Just as the guests feel that everything is fine, lightning flashes outside of a window sending the small room into darkness. Simultaneous to the flash, a TV set mounted in the corner zaps to life, and conveniently, right to an episode of "The Twilight Zone." The Hollywood Tower Hotel is pictured in its heyday on a stormy night in 1939. Hotel guests board an elevator, but while ascending the hotel, a bolt of lightning zaps the front of the building and the elevator, sending all of its occupants into another dimension. Rod Serling makes an appearance and explains how we're now the stars of the show and our own elevator is waiting to take us to . . . The Twilight Zone! After the preshow, a secret door opens and guests head into the dark and decaying broiler room. Parts of the old hotel are still clinging to life, and somehow the old machinery is still providing enough power for more of the hotel's elevators. The guests choose one of two line queues to follow, though they will ultimately end up boarding the elevator from one of four loading platforms. A cast member directs each group of people to stand on a row on a floor, and one row at a time is boarded into the elevator. Individual lap belts are secured and the ride begins. One of the best aspects of this attraction is that Imagineers have been able to upgrade and enhance this attraction once every couple of years. The original ride was modified and lengthened not long after its opening, and the ride has been enhanced a couple more times after that. This only makes me keep looking to the future and wondering just how much better this ride will be once new changes and additions are installed."The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror" is one of the finest examples you'll find of theming, storytelling, and attention-to-detail inside of the Disney theme parks. The building itself simply looks amazing and easily captures one's interest and imagination. At night, its appearance and the actual ride experience increase by tenfold. If you're in the Disney Studios and can handle a bit of vertical movement, be sure not to miss this classic attraction! NOTE - This ride is very popular and tends to have long lines during the busy season. Use a FASTPASS to bypass the main line queue. Click here to go to widescreen pictures of the "Tower of Terror."
Note - Each picture can be opened in at least one extra size. You may download and share these desktop wallpaper pictures, but please, do not modify or alter them in any way! These pictures were designed to fit most standard sized monitors. However, just because your specific monitor settings may not be listed doesn't mean that you can't use any of these photos as computer backgrounds. If you have a standard 4:3 monitor, just select the picture size larger than your settings (if possible), and have Windows stretch it to fit the screen. This will shrink the picture and keep it looking sharp instead of stretching and potentially distorting it. Making the vertical pictures fit will take a little extra work, but all you have to do is open it with a paint program (such as MS Paint), and manually resize the picture keeping the same aspect ratio. To help save bandwidth for the other visitors, please open each picture only once. If you like it, save it to your hard drive.
